Considering a Career in Medicine?
The Royal College of Physicians has announced a programme of free School Lectures, geared towards S4-S6 students considering a career in medicine.
In order to reach as many young people as possible, the lectures will also be available via a live web-stream for the first time.

Seminar on Organ Donation and Medical Careers
A Seminar on Organ Donation and Medical Careers for senior students is taking place on Wednesday 29 August 2018 at Edinburgh Napier University - Sighthill Campus. This event is free and will be open to selected S6 pupils from schools across the East of Scotland. The day will be particularly useful for up to three of our students considering a career in Medicine, Nursing, Life Sciences or undertaking Advanced Higher Modules in Medical Ethics as they will get the opportunity to speak directly to a wide range of health care professionals.
Potentially the students will be given access to Specialist Nurses in Organ Donation, Doctors in Intensive Care and Emergency Departments, Transplant Surgeons, Paediatrics, Laboratory Staff and donor and recipient families all at separate workstations. The professionals will give short talks / interactive and practical demonstrations/ discussions on their roles/ stories and answer any questions generated before rotating students to another workshop. Students attending are encouraged to prepare questions prior to the event.
Certificates of attendance will be provided to students for their Personal Development Files.
BFI Residential Film Academy
Screen Education Edinburgh are hosting a BFI Residential Film Academy this summer in Edinburgh. It is open to 16-19 year olds who are passionate about a career in film. Applications are now open. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Tuesday 19 June 2018.
CMS Bursary Scheme for Scotland
The CMS Bursary Scheme for Scotland is designed for pupils hoping to go on to study law at university.
Background to CMS
CMS is the 6th largest law firm in the world and has recently been named in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers 2017/2018. As well as supporting students in their university applications, the Bursary Scheme offers students a chance to develop a relationship with CMS and start their journey into the legal profession.
Who can apply?
CMS are looking for an S5 (now the new S6) school pupil, hoping to go on to study law, to become their next CMS Bursary winner for Scotland. The winner will receive £2,500 per year, for each year of their law degree, together with mentoring support and paid work experience with the firm. This is now the fourth year of awarding the bursary in Scotland and previous winners have gone on to study law at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Strathclyde.
How do pupils apply?
To enter the competition, they ask for a short essay and application form, which is to be submitted by Friday 29 June 2018. You can find full details of the bursary scheme and how to apply on their website. Further information is included in the Rules for the competition in Scotland.

Trainee Project Engineer Opportunity
Servest Arthur McKay is a Building Services company based in Bilston Glen Industrial Estate, Loanhead, and they have an exciting opportunity starting in September 2018.
They are looking to recruit two Trainee Project Engineers (Mechanical Division) within the office. The successful applicants will be predominantly based in their Mechanical Projects department in their office, however, they will rotate between the Projects, Design and Estimating departments for further learning. The role will require working closely with a Project Manager to allow the individuals to gain knowledge and experience to assist in the successful delivery of Mechanical and Electrical projects from the initial design and survey stage right through until client project hangover. Upon completion of their one year office learning, there will be an opportunity to further develop their learning into undertaking an HNC in Building Services Engineering.
This is a great opportunity for a pupil, either school leavers or going in to S6, who has an interest in engineering or technical services.
