We have no known cases of Coronavirus in school.  At this time of year pupils are always advised of good hygiene and handwashing routines to prevent the spread of germs.  This is usually done at Group Tutor time and is also included in the weekly Pupil Bulletins.

Coronavirus Update

NHS Lothian has updated their information regarding the Coronavirus.   Some pupils (and staff) may have returned from China or other designated risk areas after half term. Unless from Wuhan or Hubei province, pupils (or staff) who have returned from these designated risk areas and who have no symptoms may attend school as usual. 

Former Pupil Success

Jodie Wilson, a recent former pupil (2007 – 2013) & Head Girl got in touch to let us know of her recent success.

She completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow in June 2019. The Royal Institute of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) awarded her the Rowand Anderson Silver MedalRowand Anderson Silver Medal for best 5th Year student across the five Scottish Schools of Architecture, and her thesis project “Strangely Familiar” is being exhibited at the New Contemporaries 2020New Contemporaries 2020 exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy on The Mound, running from 15 February to 11 March 2020.

Jodie now lives in London and is working for If_Do, a small award-winning architectural practice. Being in London she cannot visit the school, but says that if any students at Broughton are considering a career in architecture, she would be very happy to hear from them and give them whatever support she can to help them follow her into the world of Architecture.

EMA Information

An information letter has been issued directly to parents of students who may qualify for EMA from January 2020 (those reaching 16 between 1 October 2019 and 29 February 2020).

Students are encouraged to complete the online application form at or you can complete the paper copy of the Application Form which can be printed and returned to City of Edinburgh Council.  Applications must be received by 29 February in order to have payments backdated to the start of term.

HPV Vaccination Information

The HPV vaccine has been offered free to girls in secondary schools in Scotland since 2008.  From this academic year, 2019-20, every S1 pupil - regardless of gender - can get the vaccine,   Further information from NHS Lothian is available here.
