School Strike for Climate Change: 24 May

At its meeting yesterday, the Education, Children & Families Committee took the decision to allow pupils to participate in the School Strike for Climate Change on 24 May.

Lorna Sweeney, Schools and Lifelong Learning Service Manager, has issued a letter regarding the event and, as before, parents/carers are expected in advance to write to the school confirming their child’s participation in this event and accepting responsibility for their safety.

S6 Farewell

Mr Wilson invites you to the S6 Farewell on Friday 31 May from 12pm in the School Library.  Light refreshments will be served.

SAAS Funding

If you are thinking about doing a Higher Education course at college or university, the SAAS Funding Applications for 2019/20 are open now.  To ensure that all students receive their funding in time for the start of their course they must submit an accurate application with all required supporting evidence by 30 June 2019.  Information on available funding is on the SAASSAAS website.  Students should not wait until they receive their exam results to submit their application.  

Mental Health Awareness Week

It is Mental Health Awareness Week this week and the theme this year is body image. S1 to S3 have been learning about mental health and wellbeing in PSE, and been completing a mental health research task on a area of their chosing.  Health Scotland has also created a leaflet for young people giving advice on coping with feeling sad or unhappy

Entertainment Show

An event has been organised for Thursday 27 June, with entertainment such as Drama pieces, Dance choreography & Live Music performances.  The show will take place Period 6 & 7.   Tickets, priced £2, will be sold in the Hub from 10 June onwards.

Dementia Action Week

Dementia

Do you know someone with dementia?   Do you want to find out more about how dementia affects people?  If you answered yes to either of these questions, sign up for a morning of activities in school on Wednesday 22nd or Thursday 23rd May (next week!). See your guidance teacher ASAP!

Former Scottish FA/Broughton Pupils' Visit

Former pupils Connor Smith & Chris Hamilton visited the school on Wednesday to speak to S1 & S2 pupils about their journey from being part of the Scottish FA Performance school programme to being offered full time professional contracts with Hearts FC.
