Christmas has arrived early for a set of Music School students at Broughton High School.

Eight out of eight music school students in sixth year who applied to the top conservatoires in the UK have been given unconditional offers already, for places in 2025.  In total the talented group received 22 offers, with the students now facing the task of choosing where to continue their musical  education when they leave school.

Conservatoires that have offered places include the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, which all eight applied to and were made offers.  Similarly, 5 applied and  5 offers were made for the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and 3 applied and 3 offers received for Leeds and Birmingham Royal Conservatoires.  In London, the Royal Academy of  Music, the Royal College of Music, Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music made 6 offers to the 5 students who applied.

Councillor Joan Griffiths, Education and Children and Families Convener, said:

“This is an exceptional achievement for our young people studying music in our city at the very highest level.  The City of Edinburgh Music School is a truly unique institution offering intensive tuition to music scholars, fully funded by the Council.  I am incredibly proud that the hours of practice put in by these  music students has translated to an extraordinary number of offers of places at the UK’s top conservatoires.   A special thanks to the dedicated teachers who have nurtured and developed the musical talent of our youngsters, enabling them to reach this high level.”
