‘lovely manners’ – hearing from a local resident about the ‘positive interaction’ they experienced with some of our young people at the bus stop is so encouraging. We are incredibly proud of our Broughton pupils and how they uphold the values of respect, integrity and inclusion.
This week we want to celebrate the incredible service of Audrey Mair, who on 9th December 2025, will have served for 50 years as a teacher of Geography at Broughton High School. Ms Mair continues to teach full time and is as dynamic and inspiring as ever. We doubt there are many teachers who have ever provided such dedication and commitment to one school in Scotland. Although Ms Mair does not want any fuss, we do feel this deserves special recognition. On behalf of the whole Broughton community, past and present, we thank Ms Mair for this ‘golden’ service.
What’s been happening:
- Many of our senior pupils have been undertaking assessments over the last week and these will continue until Friday 12 December. Support for study is available, and we would encourage young people to access our online subject resources and speak to their teachers.
- The timing of the assessment block has been changed this session in response to pupil feedback. We will be evaluating how well this change has supported pupils to attain at their best and improve their wellbeing by creating time over the holiday to rest and recover.
- It was great to welcome so many parents and carers of our S2 pupils last week for a review of learning with teaching staff. We are reviewing feedback on our Parent/Teacher events to ensure these operate effectively for all.
- Our S6 Leadership Team attended a pupil-led conference at Boroughmuir High School to support the development of our own pupil council.
- As we look forward to Scotland playing in the 2026 World Cup, we want to celebrate the success of our own SFA Performance School pupils: Lennon Watt has been selected for the U16 Scottish squad competing in Spain; Kai Urban has played in the UEFA Development Tournament in Cyprus with the U15 Scottish squad.
Upcoming events:
- Rehearsals for our Christmas Concert are ongoing. The concert is being held on Wednesday 17 December at 7.00pm and there are over 150 pupils performing. Tickets are available on ParentPay and the concert will certainly leave you feeling festive!
- Our seniors are planning the route for Santa’s Walk on Thursday 18 December and more details will follow shortly.
- The House competition is certainly ramping up, and pupils will have opportunities to gain valuable points in our popular House quiz!
- Our pupil council will hold their first meeting and create an action plan for improving aspects of school life that are most important to them.
- Term ends on Friday 19 December at 12.15pm and resumes for pupils on Tuesday 6 January at 8.30am.
- S3 Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 6 January at 6.00pm – opportunity to learn more about the course choice process; senior phase learning pathways and career information.

Edinburgh Learns Digital: Online Safety Event for Parent and Carers on 14 January 6-8pm at Hearts Innovation Centre, Tynecastle. Teen Triple P is a positive parenting programme suitable for parents and carers of pre-teen and teenagers 11-16 years. Teen Triple P can help parents and carers to:
- cope positively with some of the common issues associated with raising a teenager
- build stronger relationships with their teenager
- resolve conflict in the family
- manage problem behaviour
- keep their teen stay safe
