What is a Rights Respecting School Award?
The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s ethos and culture to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.
Rights Respecting Schools Award – Our Path to Bronze
At Broughton High School, our newly founded RRSA Group is working to embed children’s rights more visibly across the school as we progress toward the Bronze: Rights Committed Award. The group, made up of students and staff, meets regularly to explore the UNCRC and plan practical next steps.
Many initiatives at Broughton already align closely with children’s rights, from inclusive classroom practices to opportunities for pupil voice. We are now working to bring these efforts together within the Rights Respecting Schools framework. This year, we are developing resources that teachers can embed directly into their lessons. In addition, we have delivered whole-school assemblies to explain the UNCRC and showcase the ongoing work.
